The 10 Most Dangerous Intersections in Surprise, According to Two Years of ADOT Data
Published October 4, 2026
Surprise's table in the Metro Phoenix Dangerous Intersections Study — the two-year ADOT-data analysis published by our sister outlet AZ Crash Data — carries a pattern none of the other eleven profiled cities shows. Here are the city's ten highest-crash intersections for 2023-2024, exactly as the study ranks them.
Surprise
| Rank | Intersection | Crashes | People injured | Deaths | |---|---|---|---|---| | 1 | Bell Rd & Litchfield Rd | 67 | 24 | 1 | | 2 | Greenway Rd & Reems Rd | 52 | 37 | 0 | | 3 | Bell Rd & Reems Rd | 45 | 22 | 0 | | 4 | Greenway Rd & Litchfield Rd | 43 | 13 | 0 | | 5 | Sarival Ave & Waddell Rd | 42 | 20 | 1 | | 6 | Bell Rd & Dysart Rd | 39 | 22 | 1 | | 7 | Litchfield Rd & Waddell Rd | 39 | 10 | 1 | | 8 | Reems Rd & Waddell Rd | 38 | 20 | 0 | | 9 | Bell Rd & Cotton Ln | 34 | 16 | 0 | | 10 | Bell Rd & R H Johnson Blvd | 31 | 14 | 1 |
What stands out in the Surprise data
- Five deaths spread across five different intersections — no other city table we've profiled from the study scatters its fatalities this widely. Where most cities concentrate deaths at one or two crossings, Surprise recorded one each at Bell & Litchfield, Sarival & Waddell, Bell & Dysart, Litchfield & Waddell, and Bell & R H Johnson.
- Bell Road appears five times — at Litchfield, Reems, Dysart, Cotton, and R H Johnson — including the city's #1 crossing and two of the five deaths. The city's main commercial spine carries half its top ten.
- Greenway & Reems is the injury standout: second by crashes but first in people injured (37), well ahead of the #1 crossing (24).
Reading this as a driver
The Surprise data argues for consistent caution across the whole arterial grid rather than at one or two notorious spots — the fatalities didn't cluster. The no-cost habits apply everywhere here: generous gaps on unprotected lefts, a beat after the green, and particular care along the Bell Road commercial stretch where the crash counts concentrate.
