The 10 Most Dangerous Intersections in Avondale, According to Two Years of ADOT Data

Published October 4, 2026

Avondale's table in the Metro Phoenix Dangerous Intersections Study — the two-year ADOT-data analysis published by our sister outlet AZ Crash Data — is dominated by one corridor and, notably, recorded no deaths at all. Here are the city's ten highest-crash intersections for 2023-2024, exactly as the study ranks them.

Avondale

| Rank | Intersection | Crashes | People injured | Deaths | |---|---|---|---|---| | 1 | Avondale Blvd & Van Buren St | 52 | 21 | 0 | | 2 | Dysart Rd & McDowell Rd | 46 | 21 | 0 | | 3 | Coldwater Plaza Entrance & Dysart Rd | 44 | 19 | 0 | | 4 | Dysart Rd & Van Buren St | 44 | 15 | 0 | | 5 | 107th Ave & McDowell Rd | 43 | 19 | 0 | | 6 | Dysart Rd & Rancho Santa Fe Blvd | 43 | 7 | 0 | | 7 | Avondale Blvd & McDowell Rd | 33 | 11 | 0 | | 8 | Avondale Blvd & Coldwater Springs Blvd | 27 | 18 | 0 | | 9 | Dysart Rd & Indian School Rd | 27 | 17 | 0 | | 10 | 107th Ave & Van Buren St | 26 | 18 | 0 |

What stands out in the Avondale data

  • Zero deaths across the entire top ten — Avondale joins Scottsdale as the only profiled cities whose highest-crash lists produced no fatalities over the two years.
  • Dysart Road appears five times (McDowell, Coldwater Plaza, Van Buren, Rancho Santa Fe, Indian School) and Avondale Boulevard three more — eight of ten entries on two parallel north-south corridors.
  • A shopping-plaza entrance makes the list: the Coldwater Plaza entrance at Dysart ranks third with 44 crashes — a reminder that driveway-dense retail stretches can generate as much crash activity as major signalized crossings.

Reading this as a driver

Avondale's pattern is retail-corridor congestion: the Dysart and Avondale Boulevard commercial stretches carry nearly the whole list. The habits that fit are low-speed ones — patience at driveway entrances and plaza turn-ins, generous gaps on unprotected lefts, and a beat after the green on Van Buren and McDowell.
