The 10 Most Dangerous Intersections in Phoenix, According to Two Years of ADOT Data
Published October 4, 2026
Phoenix is the largest city in the Metro Phoenix Dangerous Intersections Study, a two-year analysis of ADOT crash-level records published by our sister outlet AZ Crash Data. These are the city's ten highest-crash intersections for 2023-2024, exactly as the study ranks them.
Phoenix
| Rank | Intersection | Crashes | People injured | Deaths | |---|---|---|---|---| | 1 | 99th Ave & Lower Buckeye Rd | 180 | 19 | 0 | | 2 | 44th St & Thomas Rd | 77 | 28 | 0 | | 3 | 67th Ave & Indian School Rd | 72 | 41 | 2 | | 4 | 7th Ave & Indian School Rd | 69 | 30 | 1 | | 5 | 19th Ave & Greenway Rd | 67 | 36 | 0 | | 6 | 51st Ave & Indian School Rd | 67 | 31 | 0 | | 7 | 83rd Ave & McDowell Rd | 66 | 40 | 1 | | 8 | 40th St & Broadway Rd | 66 | 32 | 0 | | 9 | 75th Ave & Thomas Rd | 64 | 47 | 1 | | 10 | 67th Ave & McDowell Rd | 64 | 23 | 0 |
What stands out in the Phoenix data
- 99th Ave & Lower Buckeye Rd is in a class of its own — 180 crashes in two years, more than double the second-ranked crossing, and the most of any surface intersection in the entire 23-city study.
- Indian School Road appears three times in the city's top ten (at 67th Ave, 7th Ave, and 51st Ave), accounting for three of the five deaths in this table. A single corridor carrying that much of the list usually points at corridor-level factors — speeds, signal spacing, turning volumes — rather than ten unrelated problem spots.
- Crash counts and injury counts don't move together. 75th Ave & Thomas Rd ranks ninth by crashes but produced the most injuries in the table (47), while the #1 crossing produced among the fewest (19). Severity depends on crash types and speeds, not just frequency.
Reading this as a driver
No list changes what other drivers do, but knowing where crashes concentrate is worth something: extra patience on unprotected left turns, an extra beat after a light turns green, and particular care along the Indian School corridor match where this data says the risk actually is.
