The 10 Most Dangerous Intersections in Mesa, According to Two Years of ADOT Data
Published October 4, 2026
Mesa's crash map has a defining feature, and it runs east to west. In the Metro Phoenix Dangerous Intersections Study — the two-year ADOT-data analysis published by our sister outlet AZ Crash Data — a single corridor anchors half of the city's highest-crash list. Here are Mesa's ten highest-crash intersections for 2023-2024, exactly as the study ranks them.
Mesa
| Rank | Intersection | Crashes | People injured | Deaths | |---|---|---|---|---| | 1 | Southern Ave & Stapley Dr | 57 | 33 | 1 | | 2 | Ellsworth Rd & Pecos Rd | 54 | 26 | 0 | | 3 | Broadway Rd & Higley Rd | 52 | 35 | 0 | | 4 | Broadway Rd & Mesa Dr | 51 | 21 | 0 | | 5 | Dobson Rd & Southern Ave | 51 | 13 | 0 | | 6 | Southern Ave & Val Vista Dr | 49 | 22 | 0 | | 7 | Country Club Dr & Southern Ave | 48 | 12 | 0 | | 8 | Mesa Dr & Southern Ave | 46 | 28 | 0 | | 9 | Lindsay Rd & University Dr | 46 | 17 | 0 | | 10 | Broadway Rd & Dobson Rd | 45 | 16 | 0 |
What stands out in the Mesa data
- Southern Avenue appears five times in the top ten — at Stapley, Dobson, Val Vista, Country Club, and Mesa Drive — including the city's #1 crossing and its only fatal entry in this table. Half a city's list on one street is the strongest single-corridor concentration among the cities we've profiled from the study so far.
- Broadway Road adds three more (Higley, Mesa Dr, Dobson), meaning eight of Mesa's ten highest-crash intersections sit on just two parallel east-west arterials.
- The southeast is represented too: Ellsworth & Pecos at #2 reflects the fast-growing far-southeast edge of the city, where traffic volumes have climbed with development.
- Totals here are lower than Phoenix's — Mesa's #1 (57 crashes) would rank near the bottom of Phoenix's table — a useful reminder that these are per-city rankings, not a regional scale.
Reading this as a driver
For Mesa drivers the data reads almost like a route note: Southern and Broadway carry most of the concentrated crash risk, so the small habits — generous gaps on unprotected lefts, a beat after the green, patience at the big arterial crossings — matter most exactly there.
The full regional study — top-25 regional table, deadliest crossings, and per-city tables for a dozen Valley cities — is available at AZ Crash Data.
